Our Story

Tyler Tootoosis

I grew up surrounded by the beautiful energy of the horses. I graduated from Chief Poundmaker School in the year 2000 and I was unsure what I wanted to do with my life. Going through school I faced many challenges as I was struggling coping with being undiagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. It wasn’t til later on in life that I was diagnosed.

Searching for my next step in life I stumbled upon a post secondary equine studies program through SIAST and the school was called “Kanadiana.” It was a one year program which I obtained to be a level 4 coach and rider following a four month practicum in Germany at a prominent jumping stable.

I then proceeded to obtain a degree in education through the University of Saskatchewan and currently work as an educator for the past 9 years.

Certified Life Skills Coach, Journey work practitioner (emotional work), Equine Assisted Facilitator, Level 4 Coach and Riding Instructor, Basic First Aid & CPR, Educator for 9 years

Cheryl Tootoosis

I grew up in northern Saskatchewan in a small town called Ile-a-la Crosse. I did not have the experience to grow up with horses. I vaguely remember my uncle having a few horses on his farm when I was very young but that was short-lived. I would read books and look at magazines of horses wondering what would it be like to ride and to own a few.

My mother had bought me a pillow with a horse on it and I recall sleeping with it and day dreaming about being surrounded by horses. It was a dream I never thought would come true.

I met my husband in 2013 and we came for a visit to Poundmaker as we were living in Saskatoon at the time and he showed me his horses. I was instantly drawn to them.

Throughout the years Tyler has been teaching me how to ride and proper equine etiquette. When I got more comfortable with the horses I decided to get my Equine Assisted Learning Certification in September of 2022.

Equine Assisted Learning, Emotional work coach, First aid & CPR level ‘C’, Licensed practical nurse for 16 years, Medicine Wheel & 12 Steps for Men & Women Facilitator training.

Our Story

Tyler and I often talked about owning our own equine business and what it would entail and what our main goal was. We never knew where to start or how it would start, therefore, it got lost in our dream pile.

July 2021 we lost our baby girl Hera at 27 weeks gestation. It was life changing traumatic experience for us. Our grief took a hold of us and we we’re lost for quite some time.

An opportunity arose in August 2021 to take our horses to a family camp in my hometown of Ile-a-la Crosse. We accepted the offer and that’s when our healing journey started.

Being around the horses and around others who have never experienced being around horses spirit was truly amazing. It was a pivotal moment in our life and that’s when we decided it was time to begin working on our dream.

Horses carry medicine that can heal people of all ages. They can feel the energy you carry and they can guide you to where you need healing.

We want to share the healing that the horses have and the healing that we’ve experienced.
